According to Mr. Rosenthal, the Mets are close to landing Jeff Conine in exchange for two class A position players. A rumor floating around during the trade deadline was A+ OF Sean Henry and A+ SS Jose Castro, which in my opinion, would be too much to give up for a righty bat off the bench.
Stay tuned.
Update 5:52pm: Deal Done. Henry and Castro for Conine. My thoughts:
Meh.
The upside here is what? We couldn't just carry 3 catchers in the playoffs? Especially since our pitching staff should be 11 and not 12.
Reyes, Castillo, Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Alou, Milledge, Lo Duca (8)
Pedro, Glavine, Duque, Maine/Ollie (4)
Wagner, Heilman, Feliciano, Smith, Burgos, Sosa, Maine/Ollie (7)
Castro, Chavez, Green, Marlon, DiFelice/Alomar, Gotay (6)
I don't see the point trading anyone for a RH bat.

I agree. Sean Henry was a FUTURE STAR. And Jose Castro.. boy can he play!!! Fire Omar NOW
ReplyDeleteYoure right both of these guys were hitting .300 in A ball thats way too much we coulda traded those two in a package for johan santana along with humber
ReplyDeleteOK, the sarcasm here is insane. The point isn't what we traded, but why. I don't feel it was necessary.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you thinking about the playoffs they still have to make it and theres no need to carry 3 catchers because Conine is better then Castro.
