Same old, same old for the Cyclones offense, either it's no hitting, or a bunch of hits and LOB. Tonight it was the latter, with 9 LOB, out of the 10 hits and 3 walks. John Servidio (0 for 2, K, .211), Ike Davis (0 for 3, BB, K, .263), and Sean Ratliff (0 for 3, K, .189) took 0-fers, while Angel Pagan, Zach Lutz, and Josh Satin had multi hit games.

Well, this was going to be a writeup about how much Wilmer Flores was missed on a day off, but then the Mets put up a 10 spot in the bottom of the 9th. 12 men came to bat, 10 of them had hits, and the inning was capped off by a game winning walk off 3 run homer from Rogelio Del Campo. Dock Doyle's 2 out 3 run double tied it, then Stefan Welch and Pedro Zapata singled, setting the stage for Del Campo's walkoff.
Every regular had multi hit games, except for Kyle Suire, who was 0 for 5, run, K, .205 (he hit into a force out in the 9th). Stefan Welch, Del Campo, and Flores' replacement, Imbewer Alvarez, had 3 hits a piece.
The offensive outburst in the 9th turned the headlines away from another awful outing from Oscar Melendez, who gave up 5 runs (4 earned) in just 1.2 innings, on 4 hits and 4 walks. Stephen Puhl also had a bad outing in relief, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits (including a HR) in 2.1 innings. Zach Rosenbaum pitched effectively for his 4 innings, allowing just a run on 1 hit and a walk in 4 innings. Jason LaVorgna pitched the 9th, and he got the win after the theatrics from the offense.

The other 2 RBI came off the bat of Salvador Aguilar, the starting pitcher, who had a 2 run single in the 4th. On the mound, Aguilar was just as good as he was at the dish, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) over 7 innings, on 4 hits. He improved to 9-1, Eddie Kunz worked a dominating 9th, striking out the side, to earn his 21st save. Nick Evans (0 for 2, 2 BBs, K, .306), Mike Carp (0 for 4, K, .325), and Emmanuel Garcia (0 for 3, .224) took 0-fers.

This game will be marred by a beanball war between the two teams which led to 6 hit batters and 3 ejections (2 Met batters and 4 Clearwater batters were hit, 2 Met pitchers and 1 Clearwater pitcher was ejected).
Before all that was going on, Dylan Owen had his poorest FSL outing of the season, giving up 8 hits and 6 runs in 3.1 innings, his ERA skyrocketed half a run with the outing. Ryan Coultas came in and hit a batter in his 2.2 innings, also giving up a run on a solo homer. Casey Hoorelbeke hit 2 in his 1.1 innings, he was the first Met pitcher ejected. After a 3 batter appearance from Edgar Ramirez, German Marte hit the only batter he faced before he was ejected, and Emary Frederick came in to pitch a perfect 9th. I'd imagine there will be some suspensions for the ugliness tonight.

Another day, another woeful offensive showing for the Cyclones, who through their first 12 games, they've scored 34 runs, an average of 2.83 runs per game, including a 9 run outburse in their 2nd game. Taking that out, they've scored 25 runs in 11 games (2.27/gm). Today, only 3 players took 0-fers, but there was only one who had a multi hit game (Will Vogl with 3). The lone RBI was off the bat of a rehabbing Dan Murphy. Vogl scored the only run. Matt Bouchard (0 for 3, 2 BBs, 2 Ks, .244), John Servidio (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .244) and Cesar Cordido (0 for 3, K, .095) took 0-fers.

Of course, if you were looking for a glass half empty angle, they've scored half their runs in those 3 games, and just 33 in the other 9. Either way, suffice to say, they can hit, led by the Teenage Tandem of Death, 16 year old Wilmer Flores, and 19 year old Stefan Welch. Today, they went a combined 5 for 9 with 5 runs, a 3b, HR, and 6 RBI. But they were not alone, as 5 players had multi hit games, 3 players had 3 hits apiece. Jean Luc Blaquiere (0 for 4, 2 runs, BB, 2 Ks, .214), and Rafael Fernandez (the third member of the Teen Trio) went 0 for 5, dropping his average to .207.

Figueroa allowed 4 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) in 7 innings, which earned him his 2nd loss of the season. The hits went to Argenis Reyes, Raul Casanova, Raul Gonzalez, Jesus Feliciano and Anderson Hernandez, who all had one apiece. Abraham Nunez (0 for 3, K, .199), Chris Aguila (0 for 4, K, .298), Val Pascucci (0 for 4, .301) and John Rodriguez (0 for 2, BB, K, .286) took 0-fers.

I listened to this game via stream, and also charted Niese's pitch count, so here goes a detailed recap. Jon Niese had a very rough first two innings, throwing 44 pitches through 2, 20 in the first (14 strikes, 6 balls), and 24 in the second (11 strikes, 13 balls). The second inning was the only one in which Trenton scored, taking advantage of Niese's wildness. His line through 2 was 3 h, 3 er, 2 bb, k. After that, however, Niese settled down very nicely, throwing just 44 pitches over the next 4 innings (29 strikes, 15 balls), and allowing just one hit. He ended up throwing 88 pitches in the game over 6 innings, 54 of them for strikes, 34 balls. He left this game trailing 3-2 (as did I, to go watch Big Pelf).
Eude Brito pitched a scoreless 7th, and the Mets rallied for 3 in the top of the 8th to take Niese off the hook. They added a pair in the 9th and won 7-3, Tim LaVigne pitched 2 scoreless innings for the save.

Nick Waechter did a great job in long relief, going 6 innings allowing just a run on 3 hits, but the offense couldn't get over the hump, pulling within 1 and 4-3 before Jose Bierd game in to give up 3 runs in the 8th.

John Holdzkom got a surprise start and had the best outing of his pro career, with 5 tremendous innings, allowing just 3 hits, striking out 8. Raul Batis piggybacked behind Holdzkom, and pitched 3 perfect innings before being roughed up for 2 hits and 4 runs in the 9th, when the game was firmly out of reach.
