Bit of Breaking News on the Roster
Chris Aguila and Argenis Reyes are on their way up. Of course, tonight's losing pitcher Carlos Muniz is going back down, the other roster move may be DLing Castillo (I thought we were supposed to let him sit on the bench 10 days, PH, sit another 5 days, PH, then DL him?) or Sanchez (and wouldn't it figure to be Sanchez the way it's gone this year?)
Chris Aguila (OF) is hitting .288/.372/.521/.892 in 267 ABs in AAA. 77 for 267, 45 runs, 9 2b, 3b, 17 HR, 43 RBI, 33/62 BB/K
Argenis Reyes (2b/ss): 87 for 300, 38 runs, 11 2b, 3b, 22 RBI, 30/45 BB/K, 13/19 SBs, .290/.353/.333/.687 (yes, we found a Castillo clone!)
Aguila is 29, Reyes is 26.

Eric Niesen had a rough one tonight, giving up 6 hits, 2 walks and 4 runs over 5 innings, taking his 9th loss of the season. Despite pitching much better lately out of the rotation, I wonder when Met brass will realize Niesen's talents (whatever they may be), lie in the bullpen. Ryan Coultas, Stephen Clyne and Edgar Ramirez pitched behind Niesen, Coultas was insanely wild, allowing a run on 4 walks.
To be honest, unless Niesen was pitching a perfect game (and maybe even then), he wasn't winning. The Mets lineup was shut down by Cubs prospect Marco Carrillo, who allowed just 2 hits in 8 innings, facing 1 over the minimum. Ruben Tejada, Josh Thole and Peeter Ramos got hits off Carrillo and a reliever. Everyone else took 0-fers.

The offense had 10 hits and 3 runs, but left 7 on base. Every regular had at least one hit except Carlos Guzman (0 for 4, .235). Casey Craig and Nick Giarraputo had multi hit games.

Wilmer Flores homered in his first AB, but otherwise went hitless, as Kingsport won 3-2. It was his 8th XBH, 4th HR and 18th RBI. And yeah, he's 16 years old (for another month and change). What he's doing is otherworldly right now. It's Fernando-esque in it's dominance. Stefan Welch also had a hit, Pedro Zapata had 2. Dock Doule (0 for 1, run, 2 BBs, .227) and Rafael Fernandez (0 for 1, run, 2 BBs, .212) took 0-fers. Stop the presses, Wilmer Flores...drew a walk. And had his 9th XBH (a 2b). He really is unbelieveable, he should be in between his junior and senior years in HS (I believe he'd be among the youngest of the class of 09...). Instead, he's playing pro ball and dominating in a league where the average age is around 21. Oh yeah, and he's got braces and looks like he's 12. Unreal. Anyway, outside of Flores, Ignacio Medrano and Dock Doyle had multi hit games, while Imbawer Alvarez (0 for 3, BB, .067) and 34th round pick Justin Garber (0 for 4, run, .077) took 0-fers.

Yury Santana came into a 5-3 game sporting a 0.00 era in 4.1 innings, 4/4 in SVs. Well, all that came to a crashing end on Monday. The 25 3/4 year old Santana allowed 3 hits and 2 runs in an inning of work, blowing the same and raising his ERA to 3.38. However, a run in the bottom of the 9th gave him a leech victory, not that the previous pitching in line (Jimmy Johnson) was deserving, either, after he took was charged with a BS. Scott Shaw started this game was was decent over 5 innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs. Chris Schwinden pitched 2 scoreless innings before Johnson and Santana combined to allow 3 runs in 2 innings.
The offense had 12 hits and 6 walks, but left 8 men on base. Ike Davis had a big game, going 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, and Eric Campbell hitting behind him was 2 for 3 with 2 more RBI. Aside from them, Matt Bouchard and Zach Lutz had multi hit games, while David Reese Havens (0 for 4, BB, 3 Ks), Josh Satin (0 for 1, BB, K, .243), Will Vogl (0 for 2, run, 2 BBs, K, .259) and Cesar Cordido (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .083) had 0-fers.
