4 years is defintly rough..but arguably neccesary. I would muvh rather give 4 years to Castillo rather then Eckstein. Would have loved to get Hudson but he probably would have cost to much and you would have to attempt to get an extension for him... given the circumstances and what Castillo was apparently asking, its not as bad as it seems
I agree, it is not that bad a contract. It is certainly a better contract than the proposed Torreabla deal. I agree that it would have been much better had it been a two or even three year deal, but in this market it probably is as good as one can get. I think he is a better second base option than Eckstein or Iguchi right now. I think Castillo will give you at least two years of above average play. In two years $6 mil. probably wont look bad for league average platoon player. 4 years at $25 mil. is pretty much the exact equivalent of the deal we gave Kaz Matsui four years ago. It has to be a better deal than that.
Yes, Charlie, because Gotay/Iguchi would likely, net net, match Castillo's offensive production. Less on the average, more on the power, probably equal OPS. And cheaper.
4 years is 2 years too many. We will rue this deal in 2010 (2010??????).
