As an aside: Obviously, we had all 4 of those guys on our audit, so we have to scramble to rip it apart and put it back together. The audit will not come out on 2/1/08. Look for it sometime (and this is a real tentative date now) around 2/10.

Is Isiah Thomas retarded?

Rhetotical question, but still - why is Mardy Collins starting over Nate Robinson?

Second Annual MPH System Audit...

Tentative date for release of Part I: 2/1/08

This year, we did something a bit different. Instead of going position by position, we grouped SS and 2B, and 1B and 3B. We now have the following categories:

OF
Corner Infielders
Middle Infielders
Catchers
Starting Pitchers
Relief Pitchers

Still haven't decided if we want to do a Draft top 10, opinions?

Thoughts on Santana trade...

I can't speak for David, but the more I hear, the more I wanna stay away. Throwing those 5 prospects at the Twins leaves us with Brant Rustich as our #1 prospect.

Brant. Rustich. Take a moment to digest that.

The most I'd offer is one of the OFers, and 2 pitchers from that pool of 5. Then 1 of each group of: Carp/Evans/Duda, Rustich/Kunz/Marte, Vargas/Bostick/Parnell. So hypothetically, the deal is:

Gomez, Humber, Mulvey, Evans, Kunz, Parnell

But in NO WAY IN HELL do I trade FIVE top prospects for any one player.

EDIT--
My take:
My thoughts on the whole thing? No way in hell would I give Fernando on TOP of the package we are already offering. Also, I would rather not give up Fernando AND Gomez in the same deal. Those are my two stand offs to the deal. I would rather not give up Guerra, but I wouldn't cry if we gave up Gomez, Guerra, Mulvey, Humber, and a couple of C+/B- prospects. Minnesota is being ridiculous asking for Omar to add Fernando to a deal that is almost equal to what they are being offered from the Red Sox and Yankees, Fernando would make that package 5 times better than the other two.

I trust Omar not to trade away every top prospect we have left for a guy who is signed for a year. I'll wait and see what happens, and I hope Omar will too.

P.S.: I think Santana would be a great addition to this team, especially at the price we are offering, but is not worth it at the price Minny is asking.

1/9/08 Winter Leagues Report!

Ivan Maldonado 0.2 IP, BB, 2 Ks, 16.20 era
Jose Reyes (c) 0 for 4, K, .273

What Should We Do During the Winter?

A) Cover the Knicks (we'd rather watch 2 girls 1 cup everyday for an hour)
B) Cover the Jets
C) Post random things at increasing frequencies
D) Other (specify)

Jim Dolan MUST DIE

Preferably, he's hit by a car and dies instantly, tonight.

By Request...commentary on the Pagan trade

This is Omar's Kazm...oh, sorry.

Uh, well, Corey Coles is a 25/26 year old AA player who's main tool (at least up to AA) is the ability to hit for a decent-high average (.342 in A+ in 2006). He split time at 3 levels in 07, spending the bulk of the season in AA, where he hit .296/.352 with a 24/44 BB/K and 9/13 SBs. He's a CF by trade, but can play any OF position well. Bats lefty. No big loss, IMO.

Ryan Meyers is a 21/22 year old reliever who had a good year in Savannah as their closer. 1-4, 2.14 era, 33 G, 13 SVs, 42 ip, 28 h, 14/48 bb/k, 1.00 WHIP. With the additions of the 484u937240972347930275903 relievers from the 07 draft (have I mentioned I hated that? Alot? A whole lot?) - he was pretty expendable.

So this trade rates as a: Who cares, on the scale from 1-10.
