This is Omar's Kazm...oh, sorry.
Uh, well, Corey Coles is a 25/26 year old AA player who's main tool (at least up to AA) is the ability to hit for a decent-high average (.342 in A+ in 2006). He split time at 3 levels in 07, spending the bulk of the season in AA, where he hit .296/.352 with a 24/44 BB/K and 9/13 SBs. He's a CF by trade, but can play any OF position well. Bats lefty. No big loss, IMO.
Ryan Meyers is a 21/22 year old reliever who had a good year in Savannah as their closer. 1-4, 2.14 era, 33 G, 13 SVs, 42 ip, 28 h, 14/48 bb/k, 1.00 WHIP. With the additions of the 484u937240972347930275903 relievers from the 07 draft (have I mentioned I hated that? Alot? A whole lot?) - he was pretty expendable.
So this trade rates as a: Who cares, on the scale from 1-10.

thanks guys... wasnt sure if you had any thoughts on the impacts having pagan might have on a carlos gomez, such as does pagan on the roster mean gomez plays the whole year at triple a where he can develop, does it mean that gomez is a goner for blanton... thats all...
ReplyDeleteI doubt Angel Pagan is going to make Carlos Gomez expendable. He really shouldn't. I feel what this does is put an extra body between Chavez and Gomez on the depth chart, and allow Gomez to, as you said John, hopefully spend a full season in AAA, which had to be the plan last year before everything went to hell in late May.
ReplyDeleteany update on endy chavez?

ReplyDeleteNegatory, but a very pertinent and forgotten question. Excellent job, anon. I completely spaced his injury as a reason for this trade.
