  1. Yeah maybe two-three years ago, but now the Sawx definitely would not do that.

  4. And Boston makes this trade, why?

  5. If he comes back and shows he healthy than I wouldn't do this as the Mets. If he is healty he is more valuable than all 3 of those players.

Buchholz was on fire as a rookie, but has somewhat cooled off. Ellsbury's steals are great, but nothing Reyes can't do and his defense in center is not that great, and while I like Lowrie's offensive potential I don't know how his defense plays and for the Mets I want speed and defense Reyes's two specialties.

  6. tej, did you really just say why boston would make that trade? to get beltran and only really giving up buchholz is a great deal for them, (ellbury is about average) and it gives them a better chance right now to compete with the yankees and in the future since they have a better farm. boston has players to step in and a very good veterans which give the prospects time to develop and have them more seasoned for the majors. once the veterans get old, they can have their spots taken over by ready, cheap players (obv not at once, too much risk) and obtain free agents to fill out the rest. yankees cant really do that, their only option is to buy free agents

if anything, the question is "why would the mets make that trade?" well it would save on money, yes that sounds bad for a big market team but it's a business first, and get us a young (25 yr old) pitcher on the cheap locked up for a few more years and give the mets a decent centerfielder.

  7. Beltran's knees are a minefield, and he's owed 37 mil over the next 2 seasons.

Again - why is Boston making this trade for a weak-kneed CFer?

  8. b/c ellsbury is average (lack of power and lots of speed doesn't really suit american league teams in offensive parks) and buccholz is in the minors (and they have other pitching prospects)...they could also use beltrans bat and his defense in cf isnt that big of a concern at fenway. he's still a top defensive cf

  9. I don't think either one of these really makes that much sense for either team. Sure if pulled off right this second might make some sense for the Mets, As they aren't sure what they will have with Beltran and Reyes right now....but that is the same reason the Red Sox wouldn't do it right now. If Reyes and Beltran come back healthy and strong, then it makes no sense for anyone involved...no matter how much i love it when fans suggest we trade our stars for the "average" players on another team.

The Red sox certainly wouldn't trade ellsbury and two others for Reyes. Essentially they are the same players, why throw in two others? and on top of that, Ellsbury is healthy.

If i'm the mets, I don't trade Beltran for what you are suggesting are "average" players. And if i'm the Sox, i don't add the salary in a beltran when i have a centerfielder.

  10. just b/c ellsbury and reyes are fast doesn't make them the same...reyes is a top defensive shortstop who is great offensively, ellsbury provides steals which is nice but nothing special
