  1. Why is Pelfrey in the headline? From what I heard he didn't pitch very well. Someone told me he threw 99 pitches!! 99 pitches in 5.2 ip is a real high number. And he only got 3/2 K:BB ratio, that's not even mediocre for the type of power he has in his arm, thats bad. I know he's a sinker ball pitcher, but his 4-seamer can reach 96 and he supposedly has terrific command of both his 2-seamer and 4-seam fastball, so he should have way more strikeouts. He also had a whip of almost 2 in this game. I know I'm being overly critical of one game in the minors, but this is how he pitched in the majors!! That's why I saying he shouldn't be in the headline, he really didn't pitch to well if you look at his overall numbers, not just the fact that he gave up 1 ER in 5.2 ip. Also do you guys have any information on his gb:fb ratio?? Thanks

  2. Pelfrey's GO/FO ratio was 9/4.

My opinion is Rick should NOT be limiting Pelfrey. In 2006, for the brief time he was up here, we saw an exploding up 97 mph FB, this year, he struggled to hit 93. That's Rick's philosophy, he wants to turn EVERYONE into a contact pitcher, and I think that's a bad idea. Pelfrey's naturally got up explosion on his 4 seam, and when you combine that with his sinker, that really should be all you need, if you have even passable secondary stuff.

I think Rick's messing with his mind, trying to turn him into something he's not. But that's JMO.

  3. Eh, I don't know about that one. I've heard Peterson's philosophy is to mainly keep the ball low but bring it up to change the eye of the hitter, and to throw strikes and pelfrey can definately throw strikes with his 4-seam fastball. Both his fastballs have natural explosion on it, so the fact that he is using just one of them, I'll agree with you for now until anyone finds a different report. Good comment though
