7/8 Minor League Report-Kirk, Wilmer, Houck, Cecilliani, AD ROD!

AAA: Buffalo 7-Scranton/WB 10

Ramon Ortiz was cruising through 5, but the 6th inning proved the difference in the as he gave up 5 runs, couldn't finish the inning and wound up with the loss. Jorge Padilla went 3 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Fernando Martinez and Lucas Duda both went 1 for 5, lowering their averages to .256 and .321 on the season. Outside of that, not much to report.


AA: Binghamton 4-Altoona 3

Binghamton scored early, and it turned out to be enough as they held on to a 4-3 victory. Kirk Nieuwenhuis continues to hit the cover off the ball, going 2 for 5, hitting his 13th HR on the season. Sean Ratliff went 1 for 2, hitting his 9th double in AA and walking twice. Josh Stinson wasn't great, but did enough to get the W going 5.1 innings, giving up 7 hits, 3 ER, walking 1 and striking out 3. Eddie Kunz came in to get 1 out and got his 3rd save on the season.


A+: St. Lucie 8-Ft. Myers 2  Cont. Game from yesterday

St. Lucie won the rain shortened game from yesterday 8-2, led by Wilmer Flores who went 3 for 5 hitting his 2nd double in St. Lucie. Stefan Welch 2 hits of his own, going 2 for 4 and raising his average to .297 on the season. Kai Gronauer went 3 for 3 and is hitting .400 since being promoted.
Scott Moviel picked up where Eric Beulac left off, and pitched 4 innings giving up 3 hits, 1 ER, walking 1 and striking out 2, he also got the save.

A+: St. Lucie 7-Ft. Myers 6

St. Lucie made a furious come back and scored 4 in the 9th to win 7-6 over Ft. Myers. Wilmer Flores only went 1 for 4 in the second game but hit his 3rd double and drove in 1 run, he also walked once. Carlos Beltran went 1 for 4, walked once and struck out once. Juan Lagares went 2 for 5, but is only hitting .194 since being promoted. Jeurys Familia had an Oliver Perez-esque start, going 3.2 innings, giving up 2 hits, 4 ER, walking 7 and striking out 3.


A: Savannah 11-Asheville 6

Savannah needed only 1 XBH in an 11-6 victory over Asheville Thursday, with the lone XBH being R.J. Harris' solo HR in the 1st. 5 guys had multiple hit games, including Pedro Zapata(2 for 6), Travis Ozga(2 for 5) and Dock Doyle(2 for 4). Cesar Puello went 0 for 2 but walked twice and scored 3 times. Nick Santomauro went 1 for 3 and drove in 2 runs. Taylor Whitenton got the W, pitching 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3.


A-:Brooklyn 6-State College 2

Mitch Houck continues to pitch really well, going 6.2 innings, and giving up only 5 hits, 1 ER, walking 1 and striking out 8. The lefty moved to 3-0 and has a 0.99 ERA on the season. Darrell Cecilliani continues to torture NYPL pitching, going 3 for 4, scoring twice and raising his average on the season to .392. He also stole 3 bases, giving him 7 on the season. Joe Bonfe added 3 hits of his own, going 3 for 4. Cory Vaughn went hitless, going 0 for 4. His average is down to .250 after his nice start. J.B. Brown went 2 for 4 and hit his first triple of the season.


Rookie: Kingsport 8-Bristol 3

Kingsport scored 7 runs after the 7th inning and won going away 8-3. ZeErika McQueen went 2 for 4 scoring once and driving in 2, he also stole his 4th base of the season. His average is up to .370. Justin Schafer added 2 hits, going 2 for 5. Aderlin Rodriguez continues to show why he was considered one of the best bats in his IFA class a couple years ago, as he hit his 5th double and 2 HR's (7). He finished 3 for 5, scoring twice, driving in 5 runs, and raising his average to .292. Javier Rodriguez also continues to hit, going 3 for 5, all 3 hits being singles. Nelfi Zapata continues his slow start, but hit his 2nd double of the season, his average is down to .240 on the year. Jacob DeGrom had another good start after getting pounded his first outing. He went 5 innings, giving up 5 hits, 0 runs, walking 1 and striking out 3. Michael Weldon got the save(2).
