Scott Moviel had yet another terrible outing, this time giving up 4 runs on 6 hits in 2.1 innings for his 4th FSL loss. Of Moviel's 6 starts in the FSL, I would characterize just 1 as average or better, (6 ip, 4 h, 3 er). The rest were either awful (5 ip, 4 h, 3 er; 3.1 ip, 8 h, 5 er; tonights), or too short (5 ip, 4 h, 2 er and 5.1 ip, 4 h).

The Mets made a belated comeback attempt, scoring 3 in the 9th, but Carlos Guzman grounded out with the tying run on first, ending the game. The Mets had just 6 hits and drew a walk, while going 2 for 5 with RISP, leaving 4 on base. Greg Veloz (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .239), Reese Havens (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .233), Seth Williams (0 for 2, K, .292) and Hector Pellot (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .261), took 0-fers, while Stefan Welch had the only multi hit game (2)

Robert Carson had an extremely poor outing tonight, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits (2 homers) and 3 walks in 3+ innings, but the Gnats offense came to play and bailed him out, bursting out for 11 runs on 14 hits and 5 walks. Manuel Olivares picked up the win with 3 good innings of relief, allowing a run on 3 hits, Jacob Goldberg picked up the save, pitching the final 3 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits. Carson, after pushing his ERA all the way down to 2, has now allowed 11 earned runs in his last 2 outings, totalling 4.2 innings, a miserable 21.21 era, and his season's ERA now stands at 2.89.

The Gnats were, as I mentioned, swinging hot bats tonight, with 14 hits and 5 walks. They went a stellar 6 for 11 (.556) with RISP, leaving just 5 on base. Jefry Marte (2), Sean Ratliff (3) and Joey August (4) all had multi hit games, with Jean Luc Blaquiere (0 for 3, BB, K, .209) taking the only 0-fer.
