4/12 Minor League Report! Calero!

Buffalo 4, Pawtucket 2 in 15 innings

Boy, we've had some long games early this season. I believe a 14 inning affair for Savannah, now a 15 inning game in Buffalo, resulting in the Bisons first win. Nick Evans provided the heroics with his first hit of the season, a walkoff 2 run homer in the bottom of the 15th. Jesus Feliciano had the lone multi hit game, while Fernando Martinez (0 for 4, run, 3 BBs, .188) and Jose Coronado (0 for 6, run, K, .063) took 0-fers. Very good to see 3 walks out of Fernando, though. Despite the win, the Bisons went 2 for 16 with RISP, and left 12 men on base. Eddie Kunz worked the final 2 innings of the game for the win, allowing just a hit.

St. Lucie 1, Sarasota 0

Carlos Guzman's groundball to 3rd, which resulted in an error, scored the only run of the game for the Mets, as they won a thrilling 1-0 pitchers duel. Kirk Nieuwenhuis who had singled to start the 7th, scored on that grounder, making a winner out of Brant Rustich, who fired 2 shutout innings in relief of Angel Calero, who was very good in his season debut, striking out 7 in 5 innings, allowing 3 hits and a walk along the way. Jose De La Torre worked a perfect 9th for his first save.

Greg Veloz continued his hot start, with 2 more hits, he's now hitting .368 (7 for 19), through his first 4 games. Carlos Guzman took the only 0-fer, 0 for 4, dropping his average a cool 205 points (I love the first two weeks of the season, lol).

Savannah 4, Augusta 11

Robert Carson's introduction to A ball went about as badly as Brad Holt's high A debut did a few nights ago. Carson gave up 9 hits and 7 runs (only 3 earned, though 2 of the 3 errors committed behind him were his, the other was Sean Ratliff's). Wendy Rosa didn't fare any better in his inning and a third, surrendering 2 hits and 3 walks, along with 4 runs (2 earned, due to Jefry Marte's FOURTH error of the season). After all that, Josh Stinson, Rhiner Cruz and Jimmy Johnson pitched 5 innings of shutout relief, but the Gnats were down 11-0 after 4, and couldn't overcome that kind of deficit, losing 11-4.

Offensively, Wilmer Flores, Sean Ratliff and Josh Satin had multi hit games, while Juan Lagares took the only 0-fer. Eric Campbell had the only homer for the Gnats, a two run shot as part of a 3 run 6th.
