Carlos Guzman's walkoff 2 run homer in the 10th provided the Mets with their second straight extra inning victory tonight, 7-5 against the Reds. The story of the game, however, is the continued resurgance of Ike Davis, who had 2 more hits tonight, both doubles, and is batting .371 over his last 10 games, with 6 2b and 8 XBH. The 2 thru 5 hitters in the Mets order were a combined 10 for 23 with 4 2b, 2 HR and 5 RBI. Greg Veloz (0 for 4, BB, K, .229, in a long 6 for 43 slump) and Brahiam Maldonado (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .224) took 0-fers.
Eric Niesen started tonight as was good over his 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs (1 earned, thanks to a Bouchard error). Nick Carr blew the save (thanks to a Reese Havens error, his 10th), but got the win with 4 innings of piggyback relief. Carr has rebounded strongly so far this month off what was a total disaster of a season in 2008, he's posted a 1.69 era in 16 innings this month, with 11 hits allowed in 16 innings, and 17 Ks to go along with 10 walks.

I know it is a bad day to comment on since they all won on thurs, but why is it that the minors seem to have the big clubs disease of leaving RISP?
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew. It's annoying as hell to watch. Especially when Gary and Keith say "it'll even out" - um...we're still waiting........................
