5/17 Minor League Report! Coronado, Owen!

Tony Armas continued to mow down the PCL, this time holding the sounds to just 2 hits over 7 innings, lowering his ERA to 2.63. However, he only picked up his 2nd win. Nelson Figueroa pitched scoreless 8th, but Carlos Muniz gave up a run in the 9th, the 3rd straight outing he's given up a run.

The Zs had 10 hits, led by Chris Aguila's 3. Jesus Feliciano and Raul Casanova also had multi hit games, while Anderson Hernandez (0 for 5, 3 Ks, .189) and Michel Abreu (0 for 4, K, .233) went hitless. The Zs are back at .500, 21-21.

Binghamton 2, Erie 0, Game 1

The Mets managed just 5 hits and 2 runs in Game 1 of the double dip, but it was enough to hold off Erie, as Jose Sanchez and Eddie Kunz combined on a 3 hit shutout. Sanchez went 6 allowing just a hit and a walk, striking out 6. Kunz allowed 2 hits in the 7th, but worked around them in notching his 9th save of the season.

The RBI came off the bats of Caleb Stewart (3b) and Jose Coronado (grounder). Eric Reed (who was just signed to take Fernando's roster spot (Nando's on the DL)), went 0 for 2. Dan Murphy (0 for 3, K, .318), Ambi Concepcion (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .254), Saloman Manriquez (0 for 1, BB, .225) and Coronado (0 for 2, RBI, .236) took 0-fers.

Eric Brown survived 5.1 innings, getting bombed for 10 hits and 5 runs, but picking up a cheap win nonetheless, as Binghamton swept the doubleheader and moved to within a game of .500, at 20-21. The BMets offense kicked into gear for the nightcap, hammering out 10 hits and 7 runs. 4 players had 9 of the hits, while 4 took 0-fers (Jon Malo 0 for 4, K; Dan Murphy 0 for 3, K, .313, Nick Evans 0 for 3, run, .293; Caleb Stewart 0 for 3, .255).

Nick Abel got bombed for 2 hits and 4 runs in the 10th, providing Daytona with their winning margin, and dropping the Mets to a staggering 8-34. Dylan Owen had started, and pitched very well, giving up just 6 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) over 6 innings. Casey Hoorelbeke allowed a run in the 7th, and Stephen Clyne allowed a run in the 9th, before the Mets rallied for 2 in the bottom of the 9th to tie it, setting the stage for Abel to get bombed.
