Tonight's song: Wallflowers - One Headlight

New Orleans 1, Portland 6

Claudio Vargas made his AAA debut - and it was a bad one. 4 innings, 9 hits and 6 runs. Binghamton 5, Connecticut 19

LOL. That pretty much sums things up. The result was never in doubt, Connecticut jumped on top 3-0 after 1, and rolled, scoring 3 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th, and 2 in the 5th, opening up a 9-2 lead after 5, before pouring it on with 10 in the 8th and 9th. The top 5 batters in the Connecticut order went 14 for 26 with 14 runs scored and 9 RBI. Eric Brown served up 9 runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings, taking his 3rd loss in epic fashion. German Marte and Joe Hietpas gave up 10 runs in 2 innings, finishing off a putrid performance by the Mets pitching staff, which surrendered 4 homers and 8 doubles among 20 Connecticut hits.

For the Mets, Dan Murphy and Caleb Stewart had multi-hit games, both also had solo homers. Ambi Concepcion also homered, his only hit on the day. Nick Evans (0 for 4, .327), Salvador Paniagua (0 for 4, K, .214), and Jose Coronado (0 for 3, BB, K, .257) took 0-fers. The Mets are now 11-18.

Nick Carr was having himself a great start, having given up 2 hits while striking out 6 thru 5, but he ran into trouble in the 6th, and his final line was 5.1 ip, 3 h, 2 er. Edgar Alfonzo gave up 3 in 2/3 of an inning, and John Wesley lowered his ERA by 6 full points, by giving up a solo homer. The Mets are 7-22.

Can I just say how much I freakin HATE LOATHE WITH A MAD PASSION pitch counts? Whoever started charting pitch counts should be shot. How in the hell is a pitcher supposed to learn to pitch deep into games IF YOU NEVER FREAKIN LET HIM?!?!?!?!? It drives me absoultely bonkers.

Elvin Ramirez was staked to an 8-1 lead and he went 5. 5 ip, 6 h, er, 2 bb, 3 k. That's a game you go 7, 8 innings, 100, 110, 120 pitches.
