Tonight's Song: Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song
New Orleans 3, Fresno 1
Brian Stokes threw an absolute gem tonight, only allowing 4 hits and a run over 8.1 innings, walking 1 and striking out 9, and Willie Collazo got the final 2 outs with 2 on, preserving the game and picking up his 2nd save of the season. All the offense came courtesy of a 2 out 3 run homer off the bat of Fernando Tatis in the 6th inning. The Zs were 5 hit in the win, their 3rd in a row, and are now 19-16 on the season. 4 players took 0-fers, Argenis Reyes (0 for 4, K, .229), Val Pascucci (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .297), Gustavo Molina (0 for 3, K, .250) and Victor Mendez (0 for 2, BB, K, .298).

Stephen Clyne has had a nightmarish first 7 weeks of the season, and it didn't let up tonight, he allowed 5 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in 1.1 innings, taking his 2nd loss and denying Nick Carr his 1st win. If you take out Clyne's first 2 scoreless outings (totalling 3 innings), over his last 5.1 innings, he's allowed 17 hits and 16 earned runs (a very ugly 27 era), with 6 walks and 3 strikeouts. Clyne's outing ruined a very good start from Nick Carr (6 ip, 3 h, 2 r, er, 3 bbs, 4 ks, hr).
All 3 Met runs were driven in by Josh Thole on a bases clearing double in the 6th inning. 2 players took 0-fers, Jason Jacobs (0 for 2, run, BB, K, .293), and Leivi Ventura as a PH went 0 for 1, .256. The Mets dropped to 8-26, and have lost 5 of 6.

Savannah 9, Hickory 4 in 11 innings
Brant Rustich made his season debut tonight for Savannah in relief, and spoiled an absolutely awesome outing from Angel Calero. Rustich allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk in just 0.2 innings, blowing the save and Calero's chance at his first win. Calero must be wondering what he's gotta do to get a W, he's 0-4 with a 2.35 era, and his last 2 outings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 14.1 innings, and gotten an ND both times. Calero was magnificant tonight, taking a no hitter into the 7th before allowing a leadoff single. He started the 8th, but allowed 2 straight 1 out singles, before yielding to Julio Polanco, who allowed both IHR to score, before slamming the door on any further scoring. Rustich then made his season debut, which didn't go well. Nick Waechter pitched the final 2.1 innings, and the Gnats poured across 5 in the top of the 11th, winning 9-4.
Every starter got a hit, and 5 had multiple hits. Greg Veloz, Richard Pena, Casey Craig, Joaquin Rodriguez and Jacob Elgsti all had multiple hits. The top of the order (Veloz, Pena, Craig) went 8 for 16 with 4 runs, 2 homers (both Craig) and 4 RBI (also all Craig). The Gnats moved to 14-21.
Greg Veloz (2b) 2 for 5, K, .242
