The Mets used the long ball to power their offense today, with 3 homers and 6 of the 7 runs driven in via long ball. Dan Murphy's lone hit was his 10th homer of the season, to put the Mets on top for good, at 4-2. The Mets had 9 hits and 5 walks, leaving 6 on base. Mike Carp and Mike Nickeas (0 for 2, 2 BBs, .200) took 0-fers.

Bobby Freakin Parnell started today and was decent over his 5.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, getting his 9th win of the season. Eddie Kunz worked a scoreless 9th for his 24th save.

Ruben Tejada's 2 run triple in the top of the 7th gave the Mets a 3-1 lead, which German Marte protected, giving the Mets a 3-1 win in game 1 of the doubleheader. The Mets had just 4 hits, but drew 7 walks, leading to 3 runs (but 6 LOB). Lucas Duda (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .263), Jordan Abruzzo (0 for 2, BB, .298), Josh Thole (0 for 2, BB, K, .288), Brahiam Maldonado (0 for 2, BB, .180) and Peeter Ramos (0 for 2, run, BB, .188) all took 0-fers. Eric Niesen started and allowed a run over 4 innings. Elvys Quezada got the win with 2 scoreless, and Marte his 4th save.

The Mets offense awoke in the afternoon-cap of the doubleheader, pounding out 6 runs and 13 hits, picking up 4 walks along the way (they did leave 9 on base), in sweeping the doubleheader from Tampa, 6-3. Every regular except JR Voyles (0 for 4, K, .221) had a hit. Ruben Tejada, Jordan Abruzzo, Josh Thole, DJ Wabick and Peeter Ramos had 2 apiece.

Michael Antonini had a decent outing today, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) over 5 innings for his 3rd FSL win, 7th overall this season. Stephen Clyne, who has been pitching lights out since May 23rd (5 ER in 24.1 IP, 1.85 era) worked 2 perfect innings for his 2nd save.

Maikel Cleto had a bad start today, and only went 3 innings due to a rain delay, allowing 7 hits and 5 runs (3 earned), for his 7th loss. Julio Polanco did a great job in long relief, with 4 scoreless innings, but the offense couldn't get the tying run in.

Greg Veloz got on base 3 times out of the leadoff spot, and scored twice, continuing his hot July (13 for 33, 2 2b, HR, 5 RBI, 6/5 BB/K). Casey Craig also had a multi hit game, while Juan Lagares (0 for 4, run, .287), Francisco Pena (0 for 1, .244), Richard Pena (0 for 4, 4 Ks, .208) and Nick Giarraputo (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .250) took 0-fers.

Another lost night for the Cyclones offense, who managed just 4 hits, but did draw 5 walks, however, they left 8 men on base. Anderson Machado (on rehab) had one of the hits, the others belonged to Eric Campbell (1 for 4, K, .302), Ike Davis (1 for 4, .279), and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (1 for 4, 2 Ks, .273).

Tim Stronach took the loss, despite pitching decently for 4 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 UER.
