Brooklyn 1, Mahoning Valley 8

Jenrry Mejia was promoted all the way from the GCL to Brooklyn to make this start for the Cyclones. I say all the way because he's just 18 years old, on a team where the average age is probably close to 23. He was having a good start thru 4 innings (4 ip, 2 h, 2 er), until his control began slipping in the 5th. He walked the bases loaded, then left for equally inept relievers. Wendy Rosa and Jimmy Johnson walked the next 4, leading to 4 runs. By that point, it was a 7-1 game. Roy Merritt and Mike Lynn finished off the game.

The Cyclones offense had 8 hits and 3 walks, but they left 7 men on base. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a big game with a 4 for 4, he had the lone RBI. The run went to Josh Satin. 5 players had hits, while 4 players took 0-fers, Brandon Richey (0 for 2, .225), Sean Ratliff (0 for 3, BB, .242), John Servidio (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .217), and Luis Alen (0 for 3, .000).

Reese Havens (dh) 1 for 3, BB, K, .281
Ike Davis (1b) 1 for 4, 2b, K, .283
Josh Satin (2b) 1 for 4, run, .245
Eric Campbell (3b) 1 for 4, .267
Kirk Nieuwenhuis (cf) 4 for 4, RBI, .271
Jenrry Mejia 4 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 5 BBs, 2 Ks, HR, 11.25 era, L (0-1)
Wendy Rosa 0.0 IP, ER, BB, 1.54 era
Jimmy Johnson 0.0 IP, ER, 3 BBs, 2.45 era
Roy Merritt 3 IP, 2 Ks, 0.79 era
Mike Lynn 2 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 Ks, 5.79 era

  1. The ump had a small strike zone yesterday. When Mejia was missing in the 5th, he wasn't missing by much, if at all.

Nieuwenhuis didn't hit the ball very hard today. It was a soft 4-4.
