Tobi Stoner's best start of the year resulted in his 3rd AA win, as the righty fired 8 innings of 3 hit 2 run ball to lead the Mets to a 9-3 pasting of Connecticut. Stoner struck out 7 over his 8 innings, and lowered his AA ERA to 4.47.
The Mets offense awoke to deliever an 8 run 4th inning, icing the game early and allowing Stoner to pitch comfortably with a 9-0 lead. Caleb Stewart (0 for 5, K, .278) took the only 0-fer, while Dan Murphy, Ambi Concepcion and Jon Malo had multi hit games. Of note, Murphy started in left field tonight, one of only a handful of games he's played out there (Evans and Carp have played the bulk of the LF).

Greg Veloz capped off his tremendous month with a 2 for 5 day, and Francisco Pena also had 2 hits in the win. Jason LaVorgna and Junior Guerra each pitched 2 innings to finish off the game. Jose Jimenez hit a game tying 3 run homer in the 8th inning, and then Jason Jacobs delievered a game winning single to drive in JR Voyles in the top of the 14th inning, as Brooklyn rallied from 4-1 down to defeat Vermont 5-4. Eric Campbell's good July was wrecked by an 0 for 5, but he wasn't the only Coney to take an 0-fer. John Servidio (0 for 4, K, .256) and Cesar Cordido (0 for 4, .154) also took 0-fers, while Matt Smith, Jason Jacobs and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had multi hit games.
After Pedro P Martinez only lasted 2.2 innings, the bullpen stepped up in a HUGE way, delivering 11.1 innings of 4 hit 1 run relief, with Jeff Kaplan getting the win.

wow...just read this morning that francisco pena was part of that bronx little league team with danny almonte. he was also overage and didn't attend school. thought that was interesting, not in a bad way, just surprising. i really liked that team even with all the stuff that happened, felt bad for all of the kids, even the overaged ones...i mean they were just kids. the media portrayed the parents, coach and KIDS!! as criminals. that was terrible. not only that, but i think the staten island teams hiring PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS was pretty freaking gay (not meant to be offensive lol)
