Dillon Gee had a rough outing today, snapping a streak of 3 good starts in his last 4 (those 3 good starts totalling 20.1 innings, 12 hits, 2 earned runs, 7 walks and 16 Ks). Today, he gave up 4 hits and 4 runs in 4 innings. Brandon Knight also had a bad outing, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits in 3.2 innings, but the Bisons overcame the poor pitching thanks to an offensive explosion of 8 runs on 15 hits and a walk. The Bisons went 5 for 14 with RISP and left 8 on base.
Cory Sullivan, Javier Valentin, Mike Lamb and Robinson Cancel had multi hit games for the Bisons, while Jason Cooper (0 for 3, run, BB, K, .195) took the only 0-fer.

Despite an awful awful inept showing with RISP (2 for 19), the Mets twice battled back from 2 run deficits (2-0 and 4-2), rallying to beat the Rock Cats 5-4 this afternoon. The Mets came to bat in the bottom of the 9th down 2-0, but Ruben Tejada singled in DJ Wabick, who'd reached on an error, and then Emmanuel Garcia's 3U fielder's choice brought in Josh Thole (who'd drawn a walk PHing), tying the game at 2. Roy Merritt, who had pitched a perfect 9th, gave up 2 in the 10th, due to his own error, once more putting the Mets down 2. But, Nick Evans (who had been 0 for 4 with 3 Ks to that point) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on Lucas Duda's double. An error brought Duda home to tie the game and send it to the 11th, where again it was an Evans hit which keyed the inning. After a leadoff single by Emmanuel Garcia, Evans stroked a 1 out single to right, setting the stage for Josh Petersen's bases loaded walk, giving the Mets a thrilling 5-4 victory.
Jose Sanchez had his best outing of the year, giving up just 2 runs on 8 hits in 8 innings, but he took a ND. Adam Bostick pitched a scoreless 11th for the win. Emmanuel Garcia, Nick Evans and Ruben Tejada had multi hit games, while Shawn Bowman (0 for 5, K, .274), DJ Wabick (0 for 4, run, 2 Ks, .292) and Carl Loadenthal (0 for 3, BB, .242) took 0-fers. As I mentioned, the Mets were an absymally terrible (use whatever adjectives you want) 2 for 19 with RISP, and they left 14 on base (although, oddly, that number counts "leaving" the bases loaded off the walk off walk).

Savannah went up against 19 year old Brad Dydalewicz today, who coming into the game was 2-0 with a 0.47 era. Dydalewicz carried a no hitter into the 5th inning until Wilmer Flores broke it up with a single. However, Elvin Ramirez for the Gnats allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings to take a tough loss, as the Gnats couldn't touch Dydalewicz. The bullpen for the Gnats was basically perfect, firing 4 hitless innings behind Ramirez, but the Gnats could not get over the hump, falling 2-1. They went 1 for 7 with RISP and left 7 men on base, and the offense generated just 4 hits, but drew 5 walks. Juan Lagares (1 for 4, K, .291), Eric Campbell (1 for 2, run, 2 BBs, .276), and Wilmer Flores (2 for 4, .246) had the hits for the Gnats, everyone else took 0-fers.

Acording to Bisons and Buffalo news sites, Gee and Knight split a start since Gee is tryting to overcome the flu. Flu bug is working its way through the Bisons.
ReplyDeletei know you really like thole and i do like his bat (good contact, good walk rate, hitting a little more line drives so better pitch recognition ~unless it's just a nice start, might probably regress to the mean~, although still no hr power but the doubles are nice) but his defense is not going to allow him to start. thats why i believe f. pena is so much better. he's a much better defender which at Catcher is huge. the only way to start at Catcher and be a below average defender is to have a monster bat. thole will be a nice backup ONLY if he improves his defense a lot more
