  1. I know a lot of people clamor for some guys (holt, mejia, thole, carson) to get called up but I don't think they should. We still do not know how holt's secondary stuff is coming along (people say it's better but he allegedly had none to begin with so of course it will be) and we can't tell if he's using only his fastball (although today he had a real good go:fo ratio so maybe he tried out his 2-seamer). let's let him develop his secondary pitches in a low pressure environment, and once they are solid then he can be fast tracked

  2. and his innings are limited and is on a strict pitch count so they should be more careful with him of course. it's based on readiness, not age. In regards to mejia, i think he should stay put at st. lucie, he's young and doesn't have the best pither's build. also, i do think he's ready b/c he does have solid secondary offerings but b/c he's so young and (might be) fragile, wouldn't it be smarter to go slower and add even more pitches? I mean, imagine a 93-97+ fastball, a hard curve, 2-seam change up (the 3-4 pitches he already has) and adding a 4-seam change-up, a slower curve, or a slider even if it's just a show me pitch just to give the batter something else to think about. oh on and top of adding those pitches, he would be strenghening the one he already has. the potential is scary

  3. thole has an insanely high BABIP, let's see how he handles himself when that comes down. you need your prospects to struggle a little just to see if they can adjust. oh and then there's his defense. at AAA, you want guys who can contribute to the mlb club, thole will not be able to even come close to proving even below-average mlb defense at this point. promoting carson? i dont think so, gives up way too many hits (about 1 per inning) and doesn't strike out enough. lets give him time.

  4. we should all temper our excitement. so many people are getting carried away. people on message boards/blogs are doling out mejia- pedro martinez comps and saying holt has a better fastball than pelf haha crazyyy. we just have to calm down and let these guys develop and play

  5. btw, huge pena fan (don't think he's the best player in the world but i feel he's underrated here by many. i know his batting average is low, not walking, and not getting many extra base hits, but i can contribute that to the fact that he's been rushed with the bat. but i love that he's improved his contact, defense (arm, passed balls) by a lot. also a fan of ruben tejada, another underrated guy.

  6. I don't like Pena, I like Tejada, but not as much as I like Havens.

Thole did slump, his average dropped from .383 to .310, and then he got hot again, it's back to the high .360s. He can learn defense in AAA the same as he can in AA.

Carson's been the victim of Jefry Marte, lol. I think he's ready for the FSL.

Holt, outside of his first awful outing, has a 1.10 era, he's ready. Mejia...yeah, the age thing is a concern (19), but he's flat dominating the league, same as Holt. I'd promote both to Binghamton and leave them there for the remainder of the season.

  7. so carson's h/9 of almost 1 and a less-than-stellar k/9 is j. marte's fault? seriously, come on. if he moves up, are you then going to blame havens and veloz? we do not know how holt secondary pitches coming along. who knows if holt is just using his fastball. mejia is young and small, let's be careful with him, good idea to limit his innings. thole, huge BABIP, could be luck, he's never hit this high before even while playing at the lower levels and with the less physically demanding 1st base position. btw, pena's defense is much better than thole's and he's 3 years younger, and let's not forget about the power. not trying to persuade you, but just saying...

  8. See, the thing with Carson is, he's a severe groundball pitcher, he's going to have higher hit rates in the minors, simply because of his defenses down there. Marte is a ... flat out awful fielder, Wilmer's OK, Valdespin is supposedly good but no one knows, and Campbell/Satin at 1b, no one knows, either. And yeah, while his Ks are down from last year, he's still pitching to a 2.09 era.

Thole's got an insane BABIP, yeah, and his LD% is 14.7%, but fact is, he's hit for 2 months now, so something's sustaining. AND he's got a 21/20 BB/K, so he absolutely knows the strike zone, so while the mid .300s average won't stay there, who's to say .290/.370 isn't in his future?

Mejia is gonna be limited to around 130 innings this year, word is. He's at 50 in the FSL with a 1.97 era. I'd like the next 75 to be in the EL. On Holt, reports are his slider's come along, but his changeup has not.
