Jon Niese's final line doesn't indicate it, but he had a solid effort today, allowing just 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings before coming out for the 7th and getting demolished. Niese's line thru 6 was: 6 ip, 5 h, 3 er, 6 ks, hr, 76:52:24, 8:4:6, so sending him out for the 7th wasn't up for much debate (I advocated for it), but in hindsight it was a poor decision.

The Mets had 7 hits, 9 walks and 5 errors help them to 10 runs tonight, as Portland just had one of those ugly ugly games where nothing seems to go right. DJ Wabick (0 for 5, K, .316), Jose Coronado (0 for 5, 4 Ks, .218) and Ruben Tejada had 0-fers, while Carl Loadenthal had the only multi hit game.
Michael Antonini had an absolutely dreadful outing today, surrendering 7 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks in just 4.2 innings. Stephen Clyne did a good job in long relief, going 3 innings, allowing just a run on 3 hits, though he did walk 2. Edgar Alfonzo picked up the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. If you take out Alfonzo's miserable relief outing on May 9th (4 runs without retiring a batter), his ERA drops from 4.19 to 2.33.

Jenrry Mejia rebounded off a rough outing his last time out (4 ip, 4 h, 2 er, 4/8 bb/k) with a very good one tonight, allowing just a run on 6 hits in 6.2 innings, picking up his 4th win and lowering his ERA back under 2. Edgar Ramirez stranded a pair for Mejia, then finished off the game for his first save.
The Mets offense had just 6 hits and 4 walks, but parlayed that into 4 runs, despite going just 2 for 9 with RISP and leaving 6 on base. Zach Lutz had a much needed breakout multi hit game, while Greg Veloz (0 for 4, K, .248), Carlos Guzman (0 for 4, K, .296), Francisco Pena (0 for 3, BB, .214) and Brahiam Maldonado (0 for 3, K, .219) took 0-fers.
