The Mets used a 6 run 5th inning to blow away the Thunder 7-1 today. The Mets used 4 pitchers in a bullpen game today to fill Brad Holt's spot in the rotation, with Edgar Alfonzo picking up the win, working 3 scoreless behind Edgar Ramirez.

The Mets had 9 hits and drew 4 walks, and were 4 for 9 with RISP, though they did left 7 on base. Nick Evans, Carl Loadenthal and Josh Petersen had multi hit games, while Emmanuel Garcia (0 for 5, 2 Ks, .273), Josh Thole (0 for 3, run, 2 BBs, .348) and Lucas Duda (0 for 3, run, BB, 2 Ks, .270) took 0-fers.

Greg Veloz' RBI single in the 7th inning proved to be the difference as the Mets rallied from 3-1 down to defeat the Yankees 4-3. The comeback got Scott Shaw off the hook (3 runs, 2 earned (Carlos Guzman error) in 6.1 innings). Jimmy Johnson retired the only 2 batters to face him to pick up the win, Jose De La Torre picked up the save.

The Mets had just 6 hits, but drew 4 walks and stole 5 bases (3 by Nieuwenhuis, (not a straight) steal of home by Veloz). They were just 2 for 11 with RISP and left 7 on base. Greg Veloz (2 for 4, run, RBI, .268, SB (13)), Zach Lutz (1 for 3, RBI, BB, K, .252, CS (1)), and Matt Bouchard (3 for 4, run, 2b, K, .239) had the hits for the Mets, everyone else took 0-fers.

Kyle Allen had his best professional outing to date, giving up just 3 hits in 6.2 innings to pick up his 4th win, and Eric Beaulac's first outing as a late game reliever was a success, as the Gnats blanked Augusta 2-0.

The Gnats were held to just 4 hits and 2 runs themselves, and were 0 for 3 with RISP, leaving a single runner on base. Sean Ratliff (1 for 3, run, HR, RBI, .301), Josh Satin (1 for 3, run, K, .304), Ralph Henriquez (1 for 3, K, .265) and Raul Reyes (1 for 3, .264) had the hits, everyone else took 0-fers.

*Few things on my mind today:

1. If Eric Beaulac is a permanent reliever now, time to move him up to St. Lucie.

2. The best thing to do with regards to Buffalo may be cut a few of the veteran ... um, players (term used loosely), and move pieces around. Send Evans and Thole up from Binghamton, and send Fernando and Murphy down from the majors. That gives you a good prospect core with Evans, Thole, Fernando, Murphy, Niese, Gee, Stoner and Kunz in AAA. Evans is reunited with his BFF Murphy, and you have a string of prospects to hit in a row. Feliciano leadoff, then Thole, Fernando, Evans and Murphy.

3. You either do that, or you scuttle the season and mass promote people to the majors, and get a 90 game preview. I honestly don't see this team as presently constituted doing much, and I'm not sure if making an ill-advised trade to fortify an injury riddled roster is the right way to proceed here. It's either ride it out with what we have, option 2, or scuttle it, option 3, in my opinion.

4. Ike Davis to Binghamton is a bad idea, take a peek at his L/R platoon splits, they are OOGLY (note, I said OOGLY and not OOGY). .193/.230/.281 vs LHP, .327/.426/.580/1.005 vs RHP. Despite this, he's serving me a very big plate of "shut the hell up".

5. Nick Carr needs to be a reliever, as I pointed out last night, his SP/RP splits are as stark as Davis' L/R splits.

6. Ruben Tejada is ridiculously impressive, no?
