Well, the BMets have, one way or another, been stripped of virtually every prospect they had to open the season, only Mike Carp (he of the 0 for 5 today), Bobby Parnell, Jose Coronado (maybe), and the recently promoted Shawn Bowman remain. Fernando Martinez (DL), Dan Murphy (MLB), Nick Evans (MLB), Eddie Kunz (MLB) and Jon Niese (AAA, possibly MLB) are all out of the lineup/rotation. And so the depleted BMets lineup went out there today and put up 5 runs, only to watch Joe Hietpas (2) and Tim LaVigne (1) combine to give up 3 runs in the final 2 innings to blow a 5-3 lead and lose 6-5, after Eric Brown gave up 3 runs in his 5.2 innings. At this point, there is no reason for Mike Carp and Bobby Parnell to remain with the BMets, they should be in New Orleans.

Brahiam Maldonado had 3 more hits tonight to lead a 12 hit outburst from the Mets, as they beat Vero Beach 5-3 today. Ezequiel Carrera tripled (his 11th) and scored, and Lucas Duda continued to try and right himself after a 3 month swandive with another hit and walk. Ruben Tejada (0 for 3, run, BB, K, .234, SB (7)) was the only one to go hitless, but he chipped in with a RS as well. All in back of Dylan Owen, who also righted his ship with 6 good innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned). Emary Frederick picked up his 5th save.

Maikel Cleto has most definitely hit a wall, the same one Scott Moviel's running headlong into. Over his last 5 starts (including tonight), he's gone 24.1 innings, allowing 29 h, 20 er, 7/12 BB/K, with a 1-4 record, and an ERA of 7.39. Tonight, he allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits (including a homer), and a walk. Manuel Olivares gave up 5 earned over 3 innings on 6 hits and a walk in "relief".
The offense managed just 4 hits off the former #1 pick of the Giants (10th overall, 2007) Madison Bumgarner, and 2 relievers. Greg Veloz and Casey Craig had one a piece (both were 1 for 4 with 2 Ks, and are hitting .289 and .287 respectively), and Carlos Guzman had 2 (2 for 2, BB, .294).

Yury Santana finished the 11th, and pitched the 12th to earn the win, Jeff Kaplan picked up his first save.
The offense had just 8 hits in the 13 inning game, but drew 5 walks to go along with them, and left a staggering 11 men on base. Both teams had a collosal failure of pitching, but the KMets was worse, leading to a shootout loss. Collin McHugh got annilhilated for 11 hits and 6 runs in 3.2 innings, but the offense got him off the hook. Manuel Alvarez wasn't so lucky, he gave up 5 hits and 4 runs in 2.1 innings to take his 4th loss. And for good measure, Travis Babin then came in and allowed 4 more, on 3 hits and 2 walks to put the game out of reach.
The offense was very productive, managing to turn 9 hits and 4 walks into 9 runs, and managing to leave 7 on base. Doug McNulty (0 for 5, .219), Rogelio Del Campo (0 for 3, .240), and Imbewer Alvarez (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .218) took 0-fers, while Wilmer Flores and Stefan Welch both went 2 for 5.
