3 starts, 3 wins for Jon Niese in AAA. Another very very solid outing for the young lefty tonight, he went 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs, walking only 1 and striking out 5. He threw 103 pitches, 65 for strikes, and induced 9 groundouts, one game after inducing 11. Through 3 starts in AAA (19 innings), Niese has allowed 14 hits, one homer, has walked just 5 and struck out 14. Nate Field closed it for Niese, earning his 12th save.

Binghamton 3, New Hampshire 5

Michael Antonini pitched decently for a 3rd straight outing in AA, but he has yet to record a victory for Binghamton. Antonini have up 3 runs on 5 hits (3 solo homers), while striking out 6, and took an ND. Joe Hietpas gave up 2 runs in the top of the 9th to take the loss (but it was his 3rd inning of work).

Fernando Martinez homered for a 2nd straight game, his 7th of the season, his only hit of the night. Shawn Bowman also homered, his 2nd Binghamton homer, his lone hit of the night, and those homers accounted for the Mets offense. Mike Carp, Caleb Stewart (0 for 4, 4 Ks, .277), Salomon Manriquez (0 for 4, run, K, .278), and Anderson Machado (0 for 3, .207) took 0-fers.

St. Lucie 8, Vero Beach 5 in 10 innings

The Mets were shutout for 8 innings tonight, before exploding for 5 in the top of the 9th and 3 in the top of the 10th to win it, 8-5. Julio Polanco started for the Mets, and he was not good, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits in 4.2 innings. Nick Waechter and Josh Stinson combined for 3.1 innings of shutout relief, allowing the Mets time to come back from 4-0 down. German Marte came in after the 5 run 9th, and allowed Vero to tie it. Marte then pitched a scoreless 10th to pick up his 2nd win.

The Mets managed just 4 hits through the first 8 innings, but then exploded for 8 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks (including 3 homers) in the final 2 innings. Lucas Duda and DJ Wabick hit 2 run homers as part of the 5 run 9th, Jason Jacobs hit the game winner, a 3 run shot in the 10th. Luis Castillo (0 for 4, BB, .067, 1 for 20 on rehab), Ruben Tejada (0 for 4, run, K, .233) and Ezequiel Carrera (0 for 4, run, BB, 2 Ks, .274), the top 3 in the Mets order, all took 0-fers. Lucas Duda, DJ Wabick and Joe Holden had multi hit games.

John Holdzkom was Wild Thing tonight, surrendering 6 runs (4 earned) on 3 hits and 6 walks, to take his 3rd loss in Savannah. Junior Guerra pitched excellent long relief, with 4 innings of 1 run ball (solo homer).

Francisco Pena had another multi hit game, his 5th in a row, with 2 for 5 (11 for 22 in that span), and is batting 19 for 45 (.422) over his last 11 games with 6 runs, 2 2b, 3b, 4 RBI, 1/11 BB/K. Greg Veloz, Jefferies Tatford and Richard Pena also had multi hit games. Joaquin Rodriguez (0 for 2, run, K, .244) and Nick Giarraputo (0 for 2, K, .261) took 0-fers.

The Conies had just 3 hits in one of their most inept offensive showings of the season, giving no support to their ace, Brad Holt, who took his 3rd loss despite a 2.08 era. Holt went just 4 innings, allowing 4 hits and a run, walking and striking out 3. Matias Carrillo worked 1.2 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits, and Jeff Kaplan finished it off with 3.1 innings of shutout ball.

Oscar Melendez got hammered again tonight, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits in 4 innings to take his 3rd loss of the season. Melendez, who went 2-5, 5.51 in the VSL last season, is off to a miserable stateside debut (and at age 21). 5 of his last 6 starts have resulted in ERAs over 4, with 4 of them over 9 (6 GS, 23 ip, 39 h, 26 er, 13/18 bb/k, 1-3, 10.17 era). Guillaume LeDuc allowed 3 UER in his 5 innings of relief, striking out 3.

The Mets managed just a run on 5 hits, leaving 7 on base. 5 different Mets accounted for the hits, while 4 took 0-fers: Rafael Fernandez (0 for 4, K, .289), Wilmer Flores, Pedro Zapata (0 for 4, K, .213) and Gabriel Zavala (0 for 2, .253).
