Fernando Martinez returned to full action today, playing the entire game in center field, and had a homer, his 6th. Fernando was on base 3 times with 2 hits and a walk, but the Mets fell 4-2, mainly due to the next two guys in the order (Coronado, Carp) combining to go 0 for 8 with 3 Ks. In fact, outside of Fernando, there wasn't much offensively to speak of, Salvador Paniagua went 3 for 3, that was about it. In addition to Coronado and Carp, Ambi Concepcion (0 for 4, K, .247) and Shawn Bowman (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .263) also took 0-fers. Eric Brown gave up 4 runs in 8 innings to take his 9th loss of the season.

Dylan Owen was masterful tonight for 7 innings, shutting out Vero Beach on 6 hits, for his 11th win of the season.

Luis Castillo continued to struggle on his rehab assignment, he's now 1 for 16 in the minors, he took an 0-fer tonight (0 for 4, run, BB, .091). Ezequiel Carrera (0 for 2, 3 BBs, K, .277), and Jake Elgsti (0 for 4, .158) also took 0-fers, while DJ Wabick and Joe Holden had multi hit games.

Mark Cohoon went 5 innings, but gave up 7 hits and 5 runs (3 earned) doing it. Rhiner Cruz pitched the final 2 innings, striking out 4.

The Gnats were down 3-0 before even coming to bat, and down 4-1 after 1.5 innings. Hampering their comebackability was Greg Veloz's 0-fer (0 for 4, K, .285) out of the leadoff spot. Juan Lagares (0 for 2, RBI, .266), Carlos Guzman (0 for 3, K, .287) and Darren Clark (0 for 2, .252) also took 0-fers, while 3 Gnats had multi hit games.

Savannah 2, Columbus 5 - Game 2

Scott Moviel rebounded from a string of 3 straight rough outings (12 ip, 19 h, 12 er, 4/9 bb/k, 0-1, 9 era) with a very solid 5 inning effort today, a 3 hit shutout. He did walk 4, but as we've told you before, he's deep in unchartered territory, well past the 120 inning marker (90.1 innings was his previous career high, set last season). He was in line for his 10th win, but Bradley Burns returned off the DL with a giant plop, giving up 2 hits, 2 walks and a homer in 1.1 innings, en route to 4 runs. Manuel Olivares allowed a run in the 7th as well, completing the meltdown.

Casey Craig, who went 4 for 4 in the opener, had 2 more hits in the nightcap, he was the only one with multiple hits in the nightcap. 5 players took 0-fers: Greg Veloz (0 for 2, BB, K, .284), Juan Lagares (0 for 3, BB, .261), Jefferies Tatford (0 for 2, K, .244), Sean McCraw (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .284) and Richard Pena (0 for 2, BB, K, .205).

Scott Shaw had a very good outing today, giving up just a run on 4 hits in 6 innings for his 4th win of the season. Jimmy Johnson worked 2.2 innings allowing 2 hits and a run, and Stephen Clyne got the final out of the game for his 8th save.

The Cyclones had 9 hits and 5 walks, but despite scoring 5 runs, left 10 men on base. Jose Jimenez and Matt Smith both homered, JR Voyles, Jimenez and Sean Ratliff had multi hit games. Jordan Abruzzo (0 for 5, 2 Ks, .250), Ike Davis (0 for 3, 2 BBs, 2 Ks, .243), Eric Campbell (0 for 2, run, 2 BBs, .276) and John Servidio (0 for 3, .242) all took 0-fers.

Michael Olmsted's 2nd Appy League start wasn't as good as his first (abbreviated) outing, he allowed 4 hits and 2 runs in 5 innings, taking a ND. Brandon Moore followed with 4 perfect innings of relief, getting his 2nd win.

The Mets had just 5 hits, but also parlayed 4 walks, turning those 9 runners into 5 runs. Wilmer Flores had an RBI 2b, and SF, the only 2 credited RBI for Kingsport. Patrick Maat went 0 for 3 with a K in his first Appy League game. Rafael Fernandez (0 for 2, 2 runs, 2 BBs, .296), Doug McNulty (0 for 3, run, BB, .200), and Justin Garber (0 for 3, .240) also took 0-fers.
