4/25 Minor League Report!

Tonight's song: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soul to Squeeze

New Orleans 3, Round Rock 2, in 10 innings

It was a pitchers duel the whole way, with Tony Armas throwing up his best game of the season, 7 innings of 3 hit ball, only allowing 1 run. Willie Collazo blew the 2-1 lead he was handed in the 8th, sending the game to extra innings, where Michel Abreu homered with 1 down in the 10th, making a winning out of Carlos Muniz, who has yet to allow a run over 9.2 innings between AAA and the majors. Run, hell, he's allowed 3 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 8. Aside from Abreu's walkoff, the offense was quiet. Fernando Tatis (0 for 3, BB, K, .217), Mike Nickeas (0 for 3, BB, .214) took 0-fers, while Caleb Stewart was the only Z with multiple hits.

Anderson Hernandez (ss) 1 for 4, BB, 2 Ks, .196

Willie Collazo 2 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BBs, 2 era, BS (1)
Carlos Muniz IP, K, 0.00 era, W (1-0)

Binghamton 4, Portland 6

Jose Sanchez had a rough 1st, giving up a pair of homers, but then settled down and pitched 4.2 innings of 3 hit, 1 run ball, ending up with a final line of 5.2 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs. Eddie Camacho had a rare off night, giving up 2 runs in 1.1 innings, taking the loss.

Offensively, Mike Carp blasted his 6th homer of the season, and 5 players had hits for the Mets, but that didn't help them get back to .500, they're now 10-12.

Fernando Martinez (cf) 1 for 5, 2b, K, .268
Emmanuel Garcia (2b) 0 for 3, 2 BBs, 2 Ks, .208

St. Lucie 7, Daytona 8

This has to be a record for futility. It is April 25th (or was when the game was played) - and the Mets have their 20th loss. 2-20. Ouch. Hardcore. To their credit tonight, they fought back from an 8-2 deficit, cutting it to 8-7, but couldn't get over the hump. Brahiam Maldonado grounded to short with the bases loaded in the 8th, with 4 already in, ending that inning and the Mets chances. They went down 123 in the 9th. Dylan Owen had a nightmare start, made worse by John Wesley (um, who?) giving up both of his IHRs. Owen's final line was 5.2 innings, 9 hits and 6 runs.

Lucas Duda had a rough night at the plate, going 0 for 5 with 2 Ks, and 2 other Mets - Jamar Hill 0 for 4, run, BB, 2 Ks and Hector Pellot 0 for 4, run, BB, 2 Ks, .178, took 0-fers. The bottom of the lineup (DJ Wabick, Josh Thole, Leivi Ventura, went a combined 7 for 12 with 4 runs, 3 2b, and 4 RBI.

Ezequiel Carrera (cf) 1 for 3, 2b, RBI, BB, .267
Ruben Tejada (ss) 1 for 3, 2b, RBI, 2 BBs, K, .253
Brahiam Maldonado (lf) 1 for 5, run, K, .192
DJ Wabick (dh) 3 for 5, run, 2 2b, 2 RBI, .235
Josh Thole (c) 2 for 4, run, 2b, RBI, .224
Leivi Ventura (3b) 2 for 4, 2 runs, RBI, K, .246
Dylan Owen 5.2 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BBs, 4 Ks, HR, 4.39 era, L (1-3)
John Wesley IP, H, 2 ER, BB, 2 Ks, 18 era

Man, I love these old farts the Mets sign for their lower minor league teams, who then proceed to blow chunks. Wesley's 27 1/2. Hopefully Rustich comes back soon and kicks this loser to the curb.

Savannah 5, Rome 3

Savannah scored 3 in the 7th, to take a 4-3 lead, and added an insurance run in the 8th, winning by a 5-3 count. 18 year old Maikel Cleto had a second straight decent outing, going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits. John Holdzkom got the win in relief, and Josh Stinson the save.

5 different players plated a run for the Gnats, who are now 7-15 on the season. 3 players - Greg Veloz 0 for 4, K, .188, Jose Jimenez 0 for 3, BB, K, .208, and Will Vogl 0 for 2, K, .143 - took 0fers, while Matt Bouchard and Jordan Abruzzo had multi-hit games.

Matt Bouchard (ss) 2 for 4, run, 2b, RBI, .195
Richard Lucas (3b) 1 for 4, RBI, 2 Ks, .205
Jordan Abruzzo (dh) 2 for 4, run, HR, RBI, K, .444
Francisco Pena (c) 1 for 4, run, K, .254
Michael Hernandez (rf) 2 for 4, run, 2b, RBI, K
Darren Clark (lf) 1 for 3, run, 2b, K, .247
Maikel Cleto 5 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 Ks, 3.60 era
John Holdzkom 2 IP, H, 2 BBs, 2 Ks, 5.40 era, W (1-1)
Josh Stinson 2 IP, 2 Ks, 3.63 era, SV (1)
