Folks, I realize Carlos Delgado is sucking the big one right now. Alot. However, Mike Carp is NOT the answer, not right now. Didn't we learn anything from rushing Milledge and Gomez and Pelfrey? Mike Carp should get at least 200 AA ABs, then 100-150 AAA ABs before even seeing the majors, and that's the most hyper-accelerated pace that would work. This year's insanity aside, he cannot hit lefties to save his life. Now, maybe, hopefully, that's changed. The early returns are very very positive, but you cannot rush him. Especially now. The absolute earliest that Mike Carp should be considered is mid June, after around 300 MiLB ABs this year.
And his defense (there's been some talk of that on the boards/blogs I visit) gets very mixed reviews. He won the FSL Award for outstanding defense @ 1b in 2006, but yet others say he has no range and stone hands. I guess we won't know until we can judge for ourselves. But I reiterate, he shouldn't be up first until 300 ABs in the minors.
