4.9.08 Minor League Report! Reyes, Polanco! Nando, Carp, Evans, Tejada, Carrera, Owen!

New Orleans 0, Memphis 2

I have nothing to say, and it doesn't matter. 95 pitches thru 5 for Tony Armas. If it's between him and Niese, give me Niese. The Zs are a blight on baseball. Memphis scored one in the 2nd and that was enough. ONE.

Argenis Reyes (ss, 2b) 2 for 3, BB, .350
Michel Abreu (1b) 2 for 4, 2b, .292
Fernando Tatis (who stinks; 2b, lf) 0 for 4, K, .154
Tony Armas 5 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 5 Ks, 3.60 era, L (0-1), 95:62:33, 6:4:5

How does that have anything to do with a MLR? Right. Edited for reasons of not wanting to turn the MLR into a Tej "I hate all players over the age of 26" Patel rant blog.

Re-edit: LOL @ David ;)

Savannah 6, Charleston 8

Scott Moviel had a rough second outing coming off his good first start (5 ip, 5 h, er, bb, 3 ks) - this time, he lasted just 4 outs (1.1 innings), giving up 7 hits and 5 runs. Julio Polanco had a good long relief outing, going 4.1 allowing a run on 4 hits, allowing the Gnats to chip away at the early 5-1 deficit. The Gnats clawed back to 5-4, after 5.5, but Polanco and Nick Waechter then allowed 3 runs in the next 3 innings, effectively icing the game. Savannah scored two in the 8th to again claw to within 1, but a run in the bottom of the 8th made it 8-6, and that was how it ended. Greg Veloz, Richard Lucas took O-fers, while Matt Bouchard, Raul Reyes and Darren Clark had multi-hit games.

Matt Bouchard (ss) 2 for 4, run, 3b, BB, 2 Ks, .250
Greg Veloz (2b) 0 for 5, 3 Ks, .143
Richard Lucas (3b) 0 for 3, RBI, BB, 2 Ks, .143
Jose Jimenez (1b) 0 for 4, RBI, 2 Ks, .174
Richard Pena (cf) 1 for 4, 2 runs, BB, .240, SB (2)
Raul Reyes (rf) 3 for 4, run, HR, RBI, K, .280
Darren Clark (dh) 2 for 4, RBI, .208
Dan Stegall (lf) 1 for 4, run, RBI, 3 Ks, .143
Scott Moviel 1.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 8.53 era, L (1-1), 0:3
Julio Polanco 4.1 IP, 4 H, ER, K, 2.84 era
Nick Waechter 1.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 Ks, HR, 4.15 era

Moviel and Vineyard have been challenged significantly, being asked to jump from HS and GCL ball right to the full season Sally League, but I think it's a good thing. There's good rushing and bad rushing. This is good rushing, the Ruben Tejada rushing is bad.

Binghamton 6, Akron 3

It was a Mike Carp/Nick Evans show tonight, and oh yeah, some guy named Fernando Martinez did well, too. Those 3 combined to go 7 for 11 with a 2b, 3b, 2 HR, 4 RBI, and walk. So tonight, it didn't matter the two in the middle (Garcia and Murphy) went 0 for 5. Carp is en fuego this year, hitting over .400 with ridiculous pop (2 2b, 3 HR). His line through 7 games: .409/.462/.909/1.371. 4 for 9, 2 runs, 2b, 2 HR, 3 RBI, .444/.500/1.222/1.722 - VERSUS LEFTIES. BOOOOOOOOOYAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDADDY!

Nick Evans, for his part, has been on fire after starting off slowly. He's 4 for his last 6, and now batting .304/.346/.522/.868 in 23 ABs. Fernando's still under .200, but he had 2 hits tonight.

Fernando Martinez (cf) 2 for 4, 2 runs, 2b, HR, RBI, .192
Emmanuel Garcia (2b) 0 for 3, 2 Ks, .174
Dan Murphy (3b) 0 for 2, RBI, BB, .364
Nick Evans (lf) 2 for 3, 2 runs, 3b, BB, .304
Mike Carp (1b) 3 for 4, run, HR, 3 RBI, .409
Jose Sanchez 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BBs, 2 Ks, 1.80 era, W (2-0)
Salvador Aguilar 2.2 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 3 Ks, HR, 3.68 era
Eddie Kunz 1.1 IP, 0.00 era, SV (3)

St. Lucie 10, Brevard County 1

Another offensive explosion, and more of our favorite prospects doing it. Each of the starting 9 had one hit, and 3 had 2 (no, that's not a Borg designation, and yes, resistance is futile). The top 2 in the lineup (Carrera and Tejada) went 4 for 9 with 3 runs scored, 2b, 3b, 3 RBI, and a walk. Ruben Tejada got so giddy he was thrown out at home trying for an ITPHR. Silly Ruben, ITPHRs are for Reyes.

Dylan Owen would've been talked about more were it not for the offense, but he was quietly dominant again, 6 shutout innings tonight, in addition to his 5 ip, 5 h, 2 er effort on the 4th. He's struck out 9 in 11 innings, while walking only 2 and allowing 10 hits. And he doesn't turn 22 until July. Will Morgan and Steven Cheney handled the final 3 innings, with Brevard's lone run coming off Cheney in the 8th (his first inning of work).

Ezequiel Carrera (cf) 2 for 4, 2 runa, RBI, BB, 2 Ks, .321
Ruben Tejada (ss) 2 for 5, run, 2b, 3b, 2 RBI, .188
Lucas Duda (1b) 1 for 4, 2 runs, 2b, 2 Ks, .286
Brahiam Maldonado (lf) 1 for 4, run, BB, .211
Hector Pellot (2b) 2 for 4, run, RBI, BB, K, .233
Sean McCraw (c) 1 for 2, 2 BBs, K, .250
Dylan Owen 6 IP, 5 H, 6 Ks, 1.64 era, W (1-1)
Will Morgan IP, 0.00 era
Steven Cheney 2 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 2 Ks, 4.50 era

Oh yeah, no one ever talks about Sean McCraw, but the dude's got filthy plate discipline. It's not sexy, but it is very effective. So far on the season, in 6 games, he's draw 5 walks vs 5 Ks. We expect the power to come with time, and with that type of eye, I think you'd take a starting catcher who put up a .265/.350/.380 type line. Or I would, anyway.
