4/27 Minor League Report!

Sorry about last night - we have Comcast high speed...usually, but from around 7pm on last night - we didn't. I stayed up until a quarter after 3am hoping, but it didn't come back. Luckily, it's back today. Kudos to David for picking me up :) So instead of doing the MLR, I spent the night watching some old Hogan's Heroes on cassette ;)

Song of the Day: DaRude - Oasis (club mix)

New Orleans 2, Round Rock 0 in 4.5 innings (rain)

Ruddy Lugo pitched brilliantly for 5 innings, good enough for a CG today, as the Zs took a rain shortened 2-0 decision from Round Rock. Lugo allowed 4 hits and a walk, while striking out 2 and lowering his ERA to 2.40, and gaining his 3rd win vs 1 loss. The RBI went to Shawn Wooten (2b) and Jesus Feliciano (sac fly). 5 players took 0-fers in the short game - AHern, Anderson Machado, Michel Abreu and Caleb Stewart were all 0 for 2 with a K, and their AVGs are .191, .209, 256, .214 respectively. Feliciano was 0 for 1, lowering his AVG to .302. The Zs are now 14-9

Fernando Tatis (2b) 1 for 2, run, 2b, .225
Chris Aguila (lf) 1 for 1, run, BB, .319
Shawn Wooten (c) 1 for 2, 2b, RBI, .172

Binghamton 0, Portland 3

Interesting lineup today, with Dan Murphy leading off and Fernando! hitting 3rd. Honestly, if they're going to shake things up, I'd rather they not break up the Trinity. My suggestion would be: Garcia/Coronado, Coronado/Garcia, Fernando, Evans, Carp, Murphy.

Anyway, it didn't work, the Mets only managed 5 singles and a double, and Eric Brown had a very tough luck loss, going 6, allowing a run on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. Edgar Alfonzo and Eddie Kunz allowed a run each in their inning of work.

3 players took 0-fers, Dan Murphy (0 for 4, .358), Mike Carp (0 for 4, K, .376) and Ambi Concepcion (0 for 3, .233). The Mets are now 10-14.

Jose Coronado (ss) 1 for 4, .276
Fernando Martinez (cf) 1 for 3, BB, K, .260
Nick Evans (1b) 1 for 4, .326
Emmanuel Garcia (2b) 1 for 2, BB, .217
Eric Brown 6 IP, 7 H, ER, BB, 4 Ks, 4.97 era, L (0-2)
Edgar Alfonzo IP, H, ER, K, HR, 5.84 era
Eddie Kunz IP, H, ER, 5.06 era

St. Lucie 6, Palm Beach 4 in 14 innings

Brahiam Maldonado hit a walk off 3 run homer in the bottom of the 14th to save Tim Stronach, who'd given up a run in the top half of the inning. The Mets bullpen, which has been much maligned this season, delivered 9.1 innings of 8 hit, 1 run relief in back of an ineffective Nick Carrwho only lasted 4.2 innings.

Despite the 6 runs put up by the Mets, their offense was held to 8 hits over 13.2 innings, with Maldonado's of course being the biggest of them all. Lucas Duda (0 for 6, .327) and Hector Pellot (0 for 5, 2 Ks, .160) were the unfortunate two who went hitless, but no Met had more then 1 hit. The Mets have won 2 straight, but are still a putrid 4-20.

Ezequiel Carrera (cf) 1 for 6, run, 3b, K, .257
Ruben Tejada (ss) 1 for 6, RBI, .242
Brahiam Maldonado (lf) 1 for 6, run, HR, 4 RBI, K, .205
Nick Carr 4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BBs, 5 Ks, HR, 5.79 era
Roy Merritt 1.1 IP, 2 Ks, 5.87 era
John Wesley IP, H, 9 era
Stephen Clyne IP, H, BB, K, 11.25 era
Arthur Santos 2.2 IP, 3 H, BB, K, 0.00 era
Tim Stronach 3.1 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 3 Ks, 6.46 era, W (2-1)
Savannah 4, Rome 2

Savannah led all the way in this one, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the 3rd. Elvin Ramirez was good today, going 5.1 innings, allowing just a run on 4 hits, but walking 3, while striking out 4. Nick Waechter, who was used as a starter last year in Brooklyn, has been pitching exclusively out of the pen so far this season, and he went 2.2 innings, allowing 2 hits and a run. Jose Bierd picked up his 3rd save.

3 Gnats had multi hit games, while 4 had 0-fers. Richard Lucas (0 for 3, BB, K, .200), Jordan Abruzzo (0 for 2, run, 2 BBs, .412), Darren Clark (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .235) and Dan Stegall (0 for 4, run, .184, SB (2). The Gnats are now 8-16.

Greg Veloz (2b) 2 for 4, RBI, K, .213, 2 SB (11)
Matt Bouchard (dh) 2 for 4, RBI, 2 Ks, .186
Michael Hernandez (rf) 2 for 4, run, 2b, .500
Jose Jimenez (1b) 1 for 4, 2b, RBI, K, .200
Jacob Elgsti (ss) 1 for 3, run, RBI, BB, .185
Elvin Ramirez 5.1 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 BBs, 4 Ks, 4.03 era, W (2-1)
Nick Waechter 2.2 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 2 Ks, 4.40 era
Jose Bierd IP, K, 1.04 era, SV (3)
