4/7/08 Minor League Report! New format! Murphy, Ruckle!

New Orleans 1, Memphis 9

The Zs were in this game until they gave the ball to Ivan Maldonado for his second inning, (the 9th), and then they weren't. Maldonado allowed 6 runs in the 9th, and Memphis rolled to a 9-1 victory. Andy Hernandy (that's so fruitcake-ish, I had to use it once) was the only Z with multiple hits, and the offense overall struggled, only getting 5 hits and a run. Memphis' starter, Mitchell Boggs, had a 15:1 GO/FO ratio.

Anderson Hernandez (ss) 2 for 4, run, 2b, K, .286
Argenis Reyes (2b) 0 for 3, BB, K, .308
Gustavo Molina (c) 1 for 4, .357
Brian Stokes 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BBs, 7 Ks, 4.50 era, L (0-1), 78:49:29, 2:2:7
Willie Collazo 3 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 2 Ks, 2.70 era, 46:28:18, 3:3
Ivan Maldonado 2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, BB, 2 Ks, HR, 15 era, 43:24:19, 2:2:2

The Zs might have one of the worst rosters in baseball history. Almost as bad as the SF Giants.

Binghamton 1, Akron 0

A pitcher's duel unfolded at NYSEG Stadium between Jake Ruckle and Ryan Edell (Indians). Ruckle went 5.2 scoreless, allowing 4 hits and 2 walks. Joe Hietpas pitched 2.1 scoreless, allowing a walk and striking out one. The Mets scored 1 in the 8th, on a double by Fernando and single by Emmanuel Garcia, their only hits in 4 ABs. Eddie Kunz closed it with a perfect 9th. Dan Murphy continued his torrid start, going 2 for 3 with a walk, raising his average to .438.

Fernando Martinez (cf) 1 for 4, run, 2b, K, .176
Emmanuel Garcia (2b) 1 for 4, RBI, K, .250
Dan Murphy (3b) 2 for 3, BB, .438
Nick Evans (1b) 1 for 4, .176
Mike Carp (dh) 1 for 4, 2b, K, .267

Dan Murphy is a name no one mentions, because we kind of have 3b locked up for a while (hopefully until I'm 40) - but I think it would behoove the Mets to start having him take grounders at second (I hate Luis Castillo's game, it's defeatist). The quicker we replace Castillo with someone who's not offensively challenged, the better. Jake Ruckle was fucked over in 2006, he should've been in Binghamton that year, and surely in 2007. Whatever. I have major issues with the idiots who decide who goes where in the system.

St. Lucie 5, Jupiter 6

Kevin Tomasiewicz and Ryan Coultas combined to blow a 4-2 lead in the 7th, leading to St. Lucie's eventual defeat, 6-5. Tomasiewicz allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in his 1.1 innings of work, and Ryan Coultas couldn't bail him out, allowing all 3 of the IHRs to score, plus 1 of his own (in the 8th). St. Lucie did get a run back in the top of the 9th, but it was not enough. Brahiam Maldonado and Sean McCraw had multi-hit games for the Mets. But the bottom 4 in the order (Wabick, Ventura, Holden, Thole) went 0 for 6000 (OK, 0 for 11) with 5 Ks.

Ezequiel Carrera (cf) 1 for 3, run, BB, .263
Ruben Tejada (ss) 1 for 4, 2 Ks, .136
Hector Pellot (2b) 1 for 4, 2 runs, .190
Lucas Duda (1b, rf) 1 for 4, run, K, .238
Brahiam Maldonado (lf) 2 for 4, run, 2b, 2 RBI, K, .182
Sean McCraw (c) 2 for 4, .267
Eric Niesen 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, ER, 4 BBs, K, 1.80 era
Kevin Tomasiewicz 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BBs, 13.50 era, L (0-1)
Ryan Coultas 1.2 IP, 2 H, R, 2 Ks, 2.45 era, BS (1)

Did I mention I have a problem with the idiots who decide who goes where in the system? Why the hell is Tejada in High A at age 18? Oh, and Kevin Tomasiewicz is not good. Not good at all. Eric Niesen should be a reliever where his fastball is a plus pitch and not average.

Savannah 2, Charleston 4

Savannah didn't play badly in this game, they were just outplayed by Charleston. Angel Calero went 4 innings, only allowing a hit, and 2 walks, but 2 unearned runs due to an error by SS Matt Bouchard (his 4th). He struck out 5. Makiel Cleto followed with 3.1 innings of relief, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 4. Offensively, Greg Veloz had a hit and RBI, Bouchard had a homer and single. Dan Stegall tripled and scored. Both Gnats runs came in the 7th.

Greg Veloz (2b) 1 for 5, RBI, 2 Ks, .158
Matt Bouchard (ss) 2 for 5, run, HR, RBI, 2 Ks, .250
Francisco Pena (c) 1 for 4, K, .313
Richard Pena (rf) 1 for 3, BB, .176
Raul Reyes (cf) 1 for 4, 2 Ks, .176
-------------

I'm going to be experimenting with different formats over the next couple weeks, try to find something which works for you guys and me. Please comment and tell me what's good and what's bad.
