One question for the "preseason" version of the mailbag...

what is your opinion of the "next wave" of mets minor league pitchers: moviel, vineyard, owen, etc.? do you think any of these guys have as much promise as niese and parnell appear to have?

Tejesh: Yes. Obviously haven't not seen them pitching (except for an outing from Owen), I'd say they do. Of the three you mention, Nathan Vineyard is the one I gravitate to. He already throws 90-93 on his fastball, and in time could gain even additional velocity to turn that into a plus pitch. His slider is already a plus pitch, and he's got an offspeed pitch, as well.

I think we'll see/know alot more later this season, since Vineyard/Moviel will be in Savannah, and from the look of things, Dylan Owen is opening in St. Lucie.

  1. Any word on Rustich, Burns and McDonald? All three pitchers are missing from long season rosters.

  2. Rustich is currently in extended ST, but he will be starting with St. Lucie pretty soon. Just some things to be hammered out there.

Dan McDonald and Bradley Burns, I don't know. I'll ask around for you.
