Brandon Knight got his first start of the season, and he was everything the Zs could've hoped for, and more. He pitched into the 7th, allowing 3 runs and 4 hits in 6.1 innings, striking out 8. Jose Santiago and Carlos Muniz finished it off.
The Zs got all the offense they'd need in the 4th inning with Mike Nickeas' 2 out GS. They'd put up a pair in the 1st, but with the 4 spot in the 4th, the game was effectively iced. Elvin Ramirez had a very bad outing today, lasting just 1.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks. Julio Polanco was effective at keeping the game where it was, allowing just a run in 3.1 innings, giving the offense time to punch through. They did just that with 3 in the 5th to tied the game at 4. The Gnats briefly took a 5-4 lead, but Edgar Ramirez allowed Charleston to tie it. The Gnats took the lead for good on a 2 run homer by Jordan Abruzzo in the top of the 10th inning. Jose Bierd, pushed to go 3 innings, allowed 1 of those runs back in the bottom half, but the Gnats escaped with a 7-6 win.
