6/23 Minor League Report! Tejada, Thole, Owen, Carr!

Tony Armas had another quality outing, but once again, his offense gave him nothing to work with, so he took another ND. This time, he went 6, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs. Brandon Knight worked a hitless 2 innings in relief, and Carlos Muniz gave up the winning run in the top of the 10th inning.

The offense was held to just 6 hits and 2 runs (on 2 solo homers by Val Pascucci and the woefully inept Anderson Hernandez). Abraham Nunez (0 for 5, .193), Chris Aguila (lf) 0 for 4, BB, K, .293, Raul Casanova (c) 0 for 5, K, .326, and John Rodriguez (0 for 1, 3 BBs, .278) took 0-fers.

Another very good start for Salvador Aguilar, who allowed 9 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) over 6.2 innings, picking up his 8th win. Eddie Kunz pitched a scoreless 9th for his 18th save of the season.

The offense managed just 7 hits, but augmented them with 5 walks, and 3 homers didn't hurt, either. The big blow was a 3 run homer from Nick Evans in the 5th, his 12th of the season. Mike Carp followed with his 10th homer, a solo shot. Jose Coronado (0 for 3, run, BB, 2 Ks, .256), Ambi Concepcion (0 for 4, K, .248) and Emmanuel Garcia (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .221) took 0-fers.

It was a very good offensive day for the Mets in Game 1 of the doubleheader, they had 14 hits, including 4 2b, en route to a 9-3 rout of the Reds. 4 of the top 5 in the order had multiple hits, including 3 more for the suddenly red hot Josh Thole, who is now pushing towards the .300 mark. Ezequiel Carrera and Ruben Tejada were on base 6 times and scored 3 runs, leading the charge. Jordan Abruzzo had the only 0-fer, going 0 for 4 with a K, dropping his AVG to .118.

Angel Calero only went 3 innings, they were 3 decent innings, he allowed 2 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4. Elvyz Quezada pitched 3 innings in relief to pick up his first win. Ryan Coultas finished off the game.

Game 2 was the Dylan Owen/Jordan Abruzzo Show, aka Battery Night. Abruzzo went 3 for 3 with a run, 2 2b and 3 RBI, and Owen scattered 6 hits over 5 innings to pick up his 6th win of the season. German Marte pitched the final 2 innings for his 2nd save. Off an outstanding Game 1, Carrera and Tejada struggled, going a combined 1 for 6 (Carrera had the lone hit). The 234 hitters in the Mets order (Tejada, Duda, Mendez) were 0 for 9 with 2 Ks, Lucas Duda's 0-fer dropped his average below .270 for the first time since very early April.

Nick Carr took a no hitter into the 8th inning, but wound up getting charged with 2 runs on a hit and walk in 7.1 innings, and a hard ND. Steven Cheney allowed both of Carr's IHR to score, and then Nick Abel allowed a run in the top of the 10th to take the loss.

The offense had just 6 hits, 2 of them off the bat of Juan Lagares. Greg Veloz (0 for 3, BB, K, .251), Casey Craig (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .322), Richard Pena (0 for 2, RBI, BB, .237) and Carlos Guzman (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .255) took 0-fers.

Tim Stronach suffered his first loss of the season, giving up 3 runs in 4.2 innings, on 8 hits and a walk. Matias Carrillo worked 4 scoreless innings in relief, and Wendy Rosa got the final out of the game, but the Cones couldn't push the tying run across.

The offense managed just 4 hits and 2 runs, with the middle 4 hitters (Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Eric Campbell, John Servidio and Will Vogl) going 0 for 13 with 2 walks and 4 Ks. The RBI came off the bats of Matt Bouchard and Nieuwenhuis. Josh Satin (0 for 2, K, .056) also took an 0-fer.

A night after waxing Johnson City 13-4, the Mets enjoyed a crisp pitchers duel, a game which only took 2 hours and 17 minutes. Oscar Melendez, Travis Babin and Erik Turgeon combined on the 4 hit shutout, Melendez picking up his first victory, Turgeon his first save.

The KMets themselves were 8 hit, with the only RBI going to Stefan Welch, the run going to Dock Doyle. Richard Lucas was removed after just 1 AB, something to keep an eye on. Welch and Lucas' replacement, Imbewer Alvarez, took 0-fers.
