The Zs trailed 4-1 after 3.5, but rallied for 3 in the 6th and 4 in the 7th, and Carlos Muniz slammed the door after a horrible relief outing from Tim McNab, stranding the tying runs on base (in the 8th) to pick up his 6th save.
Chris Aguila struck the big blow, a 3 run homer in the 6th to tie at 4 and 4. Jesus Feliciano stroked an RBI single in the 7th, giving the Zs a 5-4 lead. Mike Carp had a HUGE day with 4 for 4, and the Mets bullpen stepped up after Jon Niese only went 5, leading the Mets to a 3-2 victory, moving them to 4 over .500 at 32-28.
Niese only lasted 5+ today, surrendering 7 hits and 2 runs, walking 3 and striking out 4. German Marte and Eude Brito kept it at 2-1 Rockcats, and after the Mets put up a 2 run 8th, Eddie Kunz came in and closed it out, despite not being on top of his game, he got his 15th save.
As I said, Mike Carp had a huge day with 4 hits, but he wasn't a part of the run scoring. Greg Veloz committed 2 errors today, one of them proving costly in the 6th inning, when he booted a grounder. After Michael Antonini struck out the next batter (what should've been the third out), he allowed a line drive double to plate 2, providing all the offense of the game. It wasn't all Veloz' fault, the offense managed just 4 hits (2 of them by Veloz), the others by Casey Craig and Jacob Elgsti.
Greg Veloz (2b) 2 for 4, K, .253
Richard Pena (cf) 0 for 3, 3 Ks, .257
